Skyguide

Skyguide is the Swiss air navigation service provider responsible for air traffic management in Swiss airspace and for international routes that traverse Swiss airspace. The organization delivers en route, terminal, and approach control services, along with aeronautical information, surveillance, and related CNS/ATM infrastructure required for civil aviation. Skyguide operates under the oversight of the Swiss federal authorities, principally the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport and Communications (DETEC) and the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA), in alignment with international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and cooperation with EUROCONTROL.

The scope of Skyguide's operations includes controlling aircraft in Swiss airspace, coordinating with neighboring air navigation service providers, and managing safety, efficiency, and capacity within one of Europe’s busiest regional sectors. It maintains and modernizes its systems to support advances in navigation and communication, including radar, satellite-based navigation, data communications, and surveillance technologies. Skyguide also participates in European air traffic modernization programs such as SESAR to improve cross-border operations and interoperability.

Staffing comprises air traffic controllers, engineers, and support personnel who plan and monitor flights, manage contingencies, and ensure compliance with aviation safety requirements. In addition to routine control services, Skyguide provides meteorological and aeronautical information services as part of its mission to support safe and efficient air travel.
