Skirya

Skirya is a town and administrative center of Skiryan District in the coastal nation of Valora. It sits on the sheltered harbor of Skiryan Bay and experiences a temperate maritime climate. As of 2023, the population is about 16,000 residents. The town functions as a local hub for government, commerce, and culture within the district.

The name Skirya is believed to derive from an older regional term for shore. Geographically, the town lies on a coastal plain with low hills to the north and tidal estuaries to the south, contributing to a varied landscape and biodiversity. The surrounding area includes agricultural lands and protected wetlands that support migratory birds and local wildlife.

Skirya dates to at least the 12th century and grew as a fishing and trading harbor. The arrival of rail and road networks in the 19th century spurred growth in manufacturing and services. Today the economy emphasizes fishing, logistics, light manufacturing, and tourism tied to the harbor and historic districts. The port handles regional cargo and ferries to nearby islands, supporting both local employment and regional connectivity.

Governance is provided by a municipal council headed by a mayor. The town maintains several cultural institutions and hosts annual events such as a Bayfront Festival. Landmarks include Skirya Lighthouse, the Market Arcade, and the Cathedral of the Holy Crescent.
