Skatteupprättelse, which translates to "tax forgiveness" or "tax redemption" in English, refers to a legal process where a taxpayer is relieved of their tax liability. This can occur under various circumstances and is generally subject to strict conditions and regulations. In Sweden, for instance, the possibility of skatteupprättelse is limited and typically applies to specific situations, often involving administrative errors or exceptionally severe economic hardship where collecting the tax would be demonstrably unreasonable or impossible.

The concept is not a blanket forgiveness of taxes owed. Instead, it is a discretionary measure that authorities may grant after a thorough review of the individual case.
