Skadan

Skadan is a town and administrative center in the Norhaven region of the fictional country of Valoria. With an estimated population of 5,800, it serves as the seat of the Skadan District and a local market town for surrounding farms.

Skadan lies on the lower Elde River near the coast, where tidal flats meet cultivated fields and forested hills. The climate is temperate maritime, with cool summers and mild winters.

The town was established in the 12th century as a trading settlement and grew around a riverside market. It received fortifications in the 14th century and developed as a timber and agricultural hub. The arrival of the railway in 1871 linked Skadan to larger urban centers, contributing to its growth. In the late 20th century, the economy diversified toward services, light manufacturing, and tourism.

Today, Skadan's economy relies on agriculture (dairy, potatoes), small manufacturing (wood products), and services, including shops, schools, and healthcare. The town is served by a regional rail line and a small commercial port; a ring road encircles the center.

The Skadanian language is a dialect of the Noric family; most residents are bilingual in Valorian. Local culture centers on the annual Midsummer Festival, harbor concerts, and craft markets.
