Självfördömande

Självfördömande, a Swedish term, translates to self-condemnation or self-condemnation in English. It refers to the act of judging oneself harshly and assigning blame or guilt for one's own actions, thoughts, or perceived shortcomings. This internal process can stem from a variety of sources, including personal experiences, societal expectations, and psychological factors.

Individuals experiencing self-condemnation often harbor intense feelings of inadequacy, shame, and regret. They may dwell on past mistakes, magnify minor errors, and hold themselves to impossibly high standards. This can manifest as persistent negative self-talk, a feeling of being fundamentally flawed, and a belief that one deserves punishment or suffering.

The roots of self-condemnation can be complex. Trauma, abuse, or significant failures can contribute to a deep-seated sense of guilt. Societal pressures related to success, appearance, or behavior can also lead individuals to judge themselves harshly when they perceive themselves as falling short.
