Sjungoje

Sjungoje is a town and municipality in the fictional country of Veridia, located in the eastern lowlands near the Sjungo River. The name means "river bend" in the local language. The municipality covers about 120 square kilometers and lies at roughly 320 meters elevation.

Geography and climate: The area features savanna with scattered woodlands, and a tropical savanna climate with a dry season May–Sept and a wet season Oct–Apr.

History: Founded in the late 17th century by traders, Sjungoje grew around river trade and later agriculture. It became a district capital in the early 20th century and gained municipal status in 1952.

Administration: It is governed by a mayor and a 12-member municipal council, and is part of Veridia's eastern region.

Economy: The economy centers on agriculture—cassava, maize, and citrus—along with small-scale processing, crafts, and a weekly market. Tourism is growing around the lake and nearby protected forests.

Demographics: As of 2023, about 22,000 residents live in Sjungoje. The population is ethnically diverse; Ikoto is the major language, with a Portuguese-based creole as a common second language. Religions are predominantly Christian, with minority indigenous beliefs.

Culture and landmarks: Local festivals include River Festival in August. Notable sites include Sjungoje Lake, a bird sanctuary, and the Old Mission Church.

Education and transport: The municipality includes three primary schools, one secondary school, and a regional health center. Public roads connect to larger towns; there is an airstrip for occasional flights.
