Situationsinsikt, a Swedish term, translates to "situational insight" or "situational awareness" in English. It refers to the ability to perceive elements in the environment within a volume of time and space, comprehend their meaning, and project their future status. This concept is crucial in various fields, including aviation, military operations, emergency services, and even everyday life.

Achieving situationsinsikt involves three levels: perception of the elements in the environment, comprehension of their meaning in relation to the mission or objectives, and projection of their future status in the near term. It is not merely observing what is happening, but understanding its implications and anticipating future developments.

Factors that can impair situationsinsikt include information overload, stress, fatigue, and complacency. Conversely, effective training, clear communication, and robust procedures can enhance it. In high-risk environments, a breakdown in situationsinsikt can lead to errors, accidents, or mission failure. Therefore, developing and maintaining strong situational insight is a continuous process focused on understanding the dynamic and evolving nature of one's surroundings and their potential impact.
