Sisäänpäinsuuntautuneisuus, also known as introversion, is a personality trait characterized by a preference for introspection and a tendency to direct one's energy and attention inward. Introverts often find social interaction draining and may prefer solitary activities or spending time with a small group of close friends. They tend to think before they speak and may be perceived as reserved or quiet by others. This does not mean introverts dislike people; rather, they recharge their energy through solitude.

The concept of introversion was popularized by psychologist Carl Jung, who described it as one of two fundamental attitudes in his theory of psychological types. Jung suggested that introverts are energized by their internal world of thoughts, feelings, and memories, while extraverts are energized by the external world of people and activities. Modern psychology continues to study introversion, often distinguishing it from shyness, which is characterized by a fear of social judgment.

Introverts often possess strengths such as deep thinking, strong listening skills, and creativity. They may excel in professions that require concentration and individual work. It is important to note that introversion exists on a spectrum, and not all introverts are identical. Understanding and appreciating introverted tendencies can foster more inclusive and supportive environments for everyone.
