Simpleforamen
Simpleforamen is a term encountered in some anatomical texts to denote a basic, single opening in a bone through which a single neurovascular structure typically passes. The concept is used to contrast with more complex openings or canals that accommodate multiple structures or that connect adjacent spaces. In this usage, a simple foramen tends to be rounded or oval and does not subdivide into multiple canals within the bone.
Commonly cited examples of simple foramina in the skull include the infraorbital foramen and the mental foramen.
Clinical relevance centers on imaging, palpation, and surgical or dental procedures. Accurate identification of simple foramina
