Silbenpausen
Silbenpausen are brief pauses inserted between syllables in spoken language. The term is German for “syllable pauses” and is used primarily in phonetics, rhetoric, and vocal training. In phonology a Silbenpause marks a boundary within a word or between two words, allowing the speaker to separate phonetic units and thus making the utterance easier to process. The pauses are typically less than a half crest of a second, similar to the beat in music.
