Signalvejmodulation

Signalvejmodulation is a Danish term that translates to “signal path modulation.” It is used in Danish telecommunications literature to describe the modulation of a signal as it propagates through a system—i.e., modulation techniques applied at various points along a signal path rather than at a single device.

Overview: In this view, modulation can be introduced at different stages, including baseband processing, mixers, digital signal processors, analog modulators, and the various circuit blocks that form the transmission chain. The aim is to convey information and/or tailor signal characteristics to the channel, while preserving compatibility with downstream processing and reception.

Techniques and characteristics: The core modulation types—amplitude, frequency, and phase modulation—affect the signal’s envelope, instantaneous frequency, or phase. In a signal-path perspective these modulations may be realized by digital or analog means, including baseband encoding, quadrature modulation, gain control, phase shifters, and filtering that occur at intermediate stages rather than at the transmitter antenna alone.
