Signaaliringe, often translated as signal conditioning, refers to the process of modifying or manipulating analog electrical signals to make them suitable for further processing, measurement, or transmission. This is a crucial step in many electronic systems, particularly those that interface with the physical world. Raw sensor outputs are often not in a usable format. They might be too small, too noisy, or have a voltage range that is incompatible with the subsequent stages of the system, such as an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) or a microcontroller.

The primary functions of signal conditioning include amplification, which increases the amplitude of a weak signal. Filtering is another key aspect, used to remove unwanted noise or frequencies that could interfere with the desired signal. Attenuation, the opposite of amplification, may be necessary if the signal is too strong. Linearization is often employed to correct for non-linear responses from sensors. Level shifting adjusts the DC offset of a signal, and isolation can be used to prevent ground loops or protect sensitive equipment.

Common components used in signal conditioning circuits include operational amplifiers (op-amps), resistors, capacitors, and inductors. Specialized integrated circuits (ICs) are also available that combine multiple signal conditioning functions into a single package, simplifying circuit design and reducing component count. The specific configuration of a signal conditioning circuit depends heavily on the type of sensor, the desired output, and the characteristics of the signal itself. Effective signal conditioning ensures the accuracy and reliability of data acquisition and control systems.
