Sienikasvatus refers to the practice of cultivating fungi, commonly known as mushrooms. This can range from simple home cultivation for personal consumption to large-scale commercial operations. The process generally involves providing a suitable substrate, such as sawdust, straw, or compost, which is then inoculated with mushroom spawn. Spawn is essentially a carrier material, like grain, that has been colonized by the mushroom mycelium, the vegetative part of the fungus.
