Sideplatvormid

Sideplatvormid are a type of railway platform that runs parallel to the main track or tracks. Unlike island platforms, which are situated between two tracks, side platforms are located on the outer sides of a railway line. Passengers access trains from the side of the platform that faces the track. This arrangement can be found in various railway station designs, from single-track lines to multi-track systems.

The primary advantage of side platforms is their simplicity and cost-effectiveness in certain scenarios. They require less complex trackwork compared to island platforms, especially when only one track needs to be served at a given platform. This can be beneficial for smaller stations or lines with lower passenger volumes. In some cases, side platforms can also offer better accessibility for certain passenger groups, as they may involve fewer obstacles or fewer tracks to cross.

However, side platforms can also present challenges. If a station has multiple side platforms serving parallel tracks, passengers may need to cross the tracks to reach platforms on the opposite side, which can be a safety concern. Many modern stations with side platforms incorporate pedestrian underpasses or overpasses to mitigate this risk. The overall station layout and passenger flow often dictate whether side platforms are the most efficient or practical choice.
