Sickcalling
Sickcalling, also known as phoning in sick, is the act of calling in to work or school to report illness or injury, when in reality, the individual is not sick or injured. This practice is often motivated by a desire to avoid work or school, or to take advantage of sick leave benefits. Sickcalling can have significant impacts on both the individual and the organization. For the individual, it can lead to financial loss if they are not eligible for sick leave benefits, or it can result in disciplinary action if the organization discovers the deception. For the organization, sickcalling can lead to reduced productivity, increased absenteeism, and potential legal issues if the organization is found to have knowingly hired or promoted an individual who is not qualified for the position. To combat sickcalling, organizations can implement policies that require documentation of illness or injury, such as a doctor's note, and can conduct random drug tests or other forms of verification. Additionally, organizations can provide education and training to employees on the importance of honesty and integrity in the workplace.
