Shotins

A shotin is a type of small, usually glass, container designed for serving alcoholic beverages, often in individual portions. These containers are typically characterized by their short, wide shape and a capacity that usually ranges from 1.5 to 2 fluid ounces (approximately 45 to 60 milliliters). The term "shot glass" is more common in many regions, but "shotin" is also used to refer to these vessels.

Shotins are frequently used for serving spirits neat, meaning without any mixers or ice. They are also commonly employed for measuring ingredients in cocktails or for serving layered drinks where different liquors are carefully poured on top of each other. The small size makes them ideal for tasting flights of spirits, allowing consumers to sample multiple varieties.

The design of shotins can vary, from simple, unadorned cylinders to more decorative or novelty items. They are often made of clear glass, but colored glass and even materials like metal or plastic are used. Due to their common association with consuming alcohol, shotins are frequently found in bars, pubs, and homes. The practice of "taking a shot" refers to drinking the entire contents of a shotin in one go.
