Shipston

Shipston is a market town and civil parish in the Stratford-on-Avon district of Warwickshire, England. It is situated on the River Stour, approximately nine miles south-east of Stratford-upon-Avon. The town's name is believed to derive from Old English, possibly meaning "sheep port" or "sheep settlement."

Historically, Shipston was an important agricultural centre and a crossing point on the River Stour. Its market charter dates back to the 13th century. The town has a traditional market square, a parish church dedicated to St. Edmund, and a range of local amenities. The local economy has diversified over the years, with a mix of retail, services, and light industry.

Shipston is served by the B4035 road, which connects it to nearby towns and cities. While it does not have its own railway station, the nearest station is at Moreton-in-Marsh. The town is part of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Shipston-on-Stour, as it is often referred to, retains a distinct rural character and is a popular residential area.
