Shieldids

Shieldids are a proposed group of early vertebrates or protovertebrates that may have existed during the Cambrian period. The concept of Shieldids is based on a few fragmented fossil specimens that display characteristics potentially ancestral to later, more clearly defined vertebrate groups. These fossils are notably rare and often poorly preserved, making definitive classification challenging.
