Shaximiao

Shaximiao is a fictional character from the Chinese novel Journey to the West. He is one of the disciples taken on by the Tang Monk Xuanzang as he travels to the West to retrieve Buddhist scriptures. Shaximiao is depicted as a demon who was once a celestial being, banished to the mortal realm for a transgression. He is typically portrayed as a fearsome warrior with a dark appearance, often described as having a demonic face and being a formidable fighter.

His journey begins when he is subdued by Sun Wukong, another disciple of Xuanzang, and subsequently joins the pilgrimage. Shaximiao's primary role in the narrative is as a protector of Xuanzang and the group. He often engages in battles with various demons and monsters that obstruct their path. Despite his monstrous appearance, Shaximiao is known for his loyalty and dedication to the mission.
