Shankheshwar

Shankheshwar is a significant pilgrimage site for the Jain community, particularly for the Svetambara sect. Located in the Patan district of Gujarat, India, it is renowned for the ancient Shankheshwar Parshvanatha Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Parshvanatha, the twenty-third Jain Tirthankara, and is believed to be one of his most revered seats of worship.

The history of Shankheshwar is closely tied to Lord Parshvanatha himself. Legend states that Lord Parshvanatha meditated at this site, and a serpent king named Dharanendra played a role in protecting him from adversity. The name Shankheshwar is derived from Shankh, the conch shell, which is often associated with Lord Parshvanatha. The idol of Lord Parshvanatha in the temple is exceptionally ancient and is made of black stone.
