Shakinah

The Hebrew word 'Shakinah' (שכינה) is derived from the root 'shakan' (שכן), meaning "to dwell" or "to reside." Examples include the pillar of cloud and fire that led the Israelites in the wilderness, the divine cloud that filled the Tabernacle and later the Temple in Jerusalem, and God's pronouncements from Mount Sinai.

It is believed that the Shakinah can be experienced in communal prayer, acts of loving-kindness, and when the Torah is studied and observed.
