Sensorische

Sensorische is an adjective used in German and Dutch to denote things related to the senses or sensory perception. In both languages it appears in phrases such as sensorische Wahrnehmung (German) or sensorische waarneming (Dutch), referring to the realm of sensation as distinct from cognition or action.

In science, the term points to the detection, transduction, and neural processing of environmental stimuli by sensory receptors. Basic modalities include vision (retinal photoreceptors), audition (cochlear hair cells), somatosensation (skin and proprioceptive receptors), taste and smell (chemoreceptors), and balance (vestibular system). The concept also covers interoception, the sensing of internal bodily states.
