Semioffentligt

Semioffentligt is a Swedish adjective meaning semi-public. It describes environments, information, or activities that are not fully public; access or exposure is partial or conditional. The term is formed from semi- (prefix meaning partly) and offentligt (public). It is mainly used in academic, policy, and bureaucratic contexts rather than in everyday speech.

In practice, semioffentligt can refer to events, documents, or spaces with restricted access yet open to certain audiences or under specific conditions. For example, semioffentliga evenemang might require registration or invitation but permit public attendance to some extent; semioffentliga handlingar may be accessible only after a formal request or within a limited scope; semioffentliga miljöer are spaces that are accessible to the public but where certain activities (filming, photography, or private zones) are restricted.

The concept is often discussed in relation to transparency and governance. It sits between fully public and fully private domains and is not a formal legal category in most Swedish statutes; definitions vary by institution and context.
