Semantilist

Semantilist is a rarely used term that designates a person whose primary focus is semantics—the study of meaning in language, signs, and communication. In contrast to the more common term semanticist, semantilist appears infrequently in scholarly texts and is sometimes encountered in speculative, theoretical, or branding contexts as a neologism.

Practically, a semantilist might analyze how lexical items contribute to sentence meaning, how reference is established, and how context affects interpretation. The field overlaps with lexical semantics, formal semantics, philosophical semantics, and pragmatics, and practitioners may work in linguistics, cognitive science, or computational linguistics. In applied settings, a semantilist could be involved in natural language processing, ontology design, or brand-name semantics, evaluating how terminology shapes user understanding and perception.

Because semantilist is not a standard label in most linguistic literature, there are no widely recognized authorities or canonical works associated with the term. When encountered, it generally signals a focus on meaning rather than on syntax or phonology, though in many uses it may simply be a less common synonym for semanticist.
