Selvudjævnende

Selvudjævnende, often translated as self-leveling, refers to a property of certain materials that allows them to spread out and create a smooth, flat surface on their own without significant manual manipulation. This characteristic is most commonly associated with floor screeds and toppings used in construction and renovation projects.

The principle behind selvudjævnende materials is their low viscosity and high flowability. When mixed with water or other specified components, these materials become a fluid mass that can easily flow into low spots and around imperfections. Gravity then plays a key role, pulling the material downwards and outwards, encouraging it to seek its own level. As the material begins to set, it hardens in this evenly distributed state, resulting in a uniform and flat surface.

This property is highly advantageous as it reduces the labor and time required for finishing floors compared to traditional screeding methods. It ensures a consistent thickness and an exceptionally smooth finish, which is crucial for subsequent floor coverings like tiles, vinyl, or carpets. Selvudjævnende compounds are also used in other applications, such as in paints or coatings where a smooth, even finish is desired without the need for extensive brushing or rolling. The formulation of these materials typically involves a blend of cementitious binders, fine aggregates, and specialized additives that control the rheology and setting time.
