Selangor

Selangor is a state on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It surrounds Kuala Lumpur as an enclave and has Shah Alam as its capital. It is the most populous and highly developed state, with major urban centers such as Petaling Jaya, Klang, and Subang Jaya, and a diversified economy based on manufacturing, services, and logistics.

Geography and administration: Bounded by Perak to the north, Pahang to the east, Negeri Sembilan to the south, and the Straits of Malacca to the west, Selangor includes the Klang Valley heartland. It is divided into nine districts: Gombak, Hulu Langat, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Kuala Selangor, Kuala Langat, Petaling, Sepang, and Sabak Bernam.

Government: The Sultan of Selangor is the head of state, while the Menteri Besar leads the state government. The capital and seat of government is Shah Alam.

Economy and infrastructure: Port Klang is one of Malaysia’s busiest ports, supporting trade and logistics. The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is located in Sepang. The Klang Valley region, including Selangor, is a major center for manufacturing, electronics, and services.

Demographics and culture: Selangor has a multiethnic population, primarily Malays, Chinese, and Indians, with Islam the state religion and significant Buddhist, Christian, and Hindu communities. Notable attractions include the firefly colonies at Kuala Selangor and Batu Caves near Gombak.
