Sekundäärikäämiin

Sekundäärikäämiin, often translated as secondary coil or secondary winding, refers to the coil in an electrical transformer that receives energy from the primary coil via electromagnetic induction. In a transformer, an alternating current flowing through the primary coil generates a fluctuating magnetic field. This magnetic field then passes through the core of the transformer and induces an alternating voltage in the secondary coil.

The number of turns in the secondary coil relative to the number of turns in the primary coil determines whether the transformer steps up or steps down the voltage. If the secondary coil has more turns than the primary coil, the induced voltage will be higher (a step-up transformer). Conversely, if the secondary coil has fewer turns, the induced voltage will be lower (a step-down transformer). The power transferred to the secondary coil is ideally equal to the power supplied to the primary coil, minus any losses due to heat or magnetic flux leakage.

The function of the secondary coil is crucial for adapting voltage levels in electrical systems. This allows for efficient transmission of electricity at high voltages and then safe distribution and usage at lower voltages. Secondary coils are found in a vast array of applications, from power supplies for electronic devices to large-scale power distribution networks.
