Secvenierea

Secvenierea is the process of determining the order of elements in a sequence or the arrangement of events in a specific progression. In Romanian, the term derives from secvență, meaning sequence, and shares roots with the Latin sequi, to follow. The concept appears across multiple fields and contexts.

In biology and medicine, secvenierea refers to sequencing of nucleic acids (DNA or RNA), which reveals the exact order of nucleotides. Techniques range from classical Sanger sequencing to modern high-throughput next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms, enabling whole-genome and targeted sequencing, transcriptome analysis, and metagenomics. In bioinformatics, sequencing data are analyzed to identify genetic variants, reconstruct genomes, or quantify gene expression.

In computing and data processing, secvenierea denotes organizing data or tasks in a prescribed order. This includes sequence alignment, scheduling, and the arrangement of instructions in compilers or data-processing pipelines, where the correct order is essential for reproducibility and correctness.

In narrative disciplines and media studies, secvenierea can describe the sequencing of events or scenes to convey meaning, pacing, or structure in storytelling, film, or dramaturgy.
