Schwannomát

Schwannomát is a type of tumor that arises from Schwann cells, which are a type of glial cell found in the peripheral nervous system. These tumors are typically benign, although they can be malignant in rare cases. Schwannomát is more common in adults, particularly those over the age of 40, and is often associated with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), a genetic disorder that increases the risk of developing schwannomát.

Schwannomát can occur anywhere along the peripheral nervous system, including the spinal cord, nerves, and ganglia. The most common sites for schwannomát are the vestibular nerve (which affects balance), the eighth cranial nerve (which is involved in hearing and balance), and the acoustic nerve (which is also involved in hearing). Symptoms of schwannomát can vary depending on the location and size of the tumor, but may include hearing loss, tinnitus, balance problems, and facial numbness or weakness.

Diagnosis of schwannomát typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, and imaging studies such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT). Treatment options depend on the size, location, and symptoms of the tumor. Small, asymptomatic tumors may not require treatment, while larger tumors or those causing symptoms may be treated with surgery, radiation therapy, or other interventions. In cases of malignant schwannomát, more aggressive treatment approaches may be necessary.
