Schakelpaneels

Schakelpaneels are electrical panels that house the components used to control, protect and distribute electrical power within a building or installation. They serve as a central point where incoming power is divided into multiple circuits, each protected by protective devices such as circuit breakers or fuses. In addition to switching and protection, these panels can host control and automation elements for local or remote operation.

Typical components found in a schakelpaneel include a main switch or main circuit-breaker, individual circuit breakers (or fuses) for each branch circuit, busbars for conducting electricity, terminal blocks for connections, contactors and relays, and meters or indicators to monitor status. Panels may also include surge protection devices, residual current devices, and sometimes PLCs or other control equipment in dedicated control panels. Enclosures are designed to protect the internal components and to provide safety and organization.

Types of schakelpaneels range from main distribution boards, which receive utility power and feed sub-panels, to sub-distribution boards and standalone control panels used for automation and machinery. They can be configured for low-voltage systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings and may vary in size, rating, and degree of protection. Installation considerations include proper enclosure protection (IP rating), adequate space for load growth and cooling, secure grounding and bonding, clear labeling, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Safety and maintenance are essential: installations should be performed by qualified electricians, with regular inspections, torque checks on connections, cleaning, and testing of protective devices to ensure reliable operation.
