Saugbagger
Saugbagger, literally “suction digger” in German, refers to a dredging vessel or equipment that removes sediment from the bed of rivers, lakes, or harbors by suction. The material is drawn through a submerged intake, transported via a dredge pump and discharge pipeline, and deposited either onshore, in a hopper on the vessel, or at an offshore disposal site. Saugbagger systems are widely used for maintenance dredging, channel deepening, port construction, and land reclamation, as well as for environmental remediation when sediment management is required.
