Satelliitkõlarid

Satelliitkõlarid are small, compact loudspeakers designed to be part of a larger home theater or surround sound system. Their primary function is to reproduce mid-range and high-frequency sounds, while lower frequencies are typically handled by a separate subwoofer. This division of labor allows satellite speakers to be significantly smaller and less obtrusive than traditional full-range speakers.

The typical configuration for a satellite speaker system involves two or more satellite speakers paired with a subwoofer. These systems are often marketed as 2.1, 3.1, 5.1, or even more complex setups, where the first number indicates the number of satellite speakers and the ".1" denotes the subwoofer. The satellites are strategically placed around the listening area to create an immersive sound experience, replicating directional audio cues from movies, music, and games.

Due to their limited size, satellite speakers do not possess the acoustic volume necessary to reproduce deep bass frequencies effectively. The subwoofer, on the other hand, is specifically engineered to handle these low-frequency effects, often referred to as LFE (Low-Frequency Effects). This design choice offers several advantages, including a more discreet aesthetic, as the small satellites can be easily mounted on walls or placed on shelves. It also allows for easier placement of the subwoofer, which can often be hidden in corners or behind furniture without significantly impacting the overall soundstage.

When choosing a satellite speaker system, considerations include the overall power output, frequency response (of both satellites and the subwoofer), and the system's compatibility with audio formats like Dolby Digital or DTS. The size and acoustic characteristics of the listening room also play a role in determining the optimal system for a particular setup.
