Physical descriptions vary, but common elements include a segmented exoskeleton, multiple limbs, and compound eyes; many depictions feature bioluminescent markings used for signaling within the colony.

Sasoris typically inhabit subterranean or arid environments, building extensive tunnel networks or living in camouflaged burrows. They are frequently portrayed as omnivorous and opportunistic, with life cycles organized around a queen and a caste system including workers and soldiers.
