Saraswat
Saraswat, in its most common usage, refers to the Saraswat Brahmins, a Hindu Brahmin community traditionally associated with the Konkan coastline of western India, including present-day Goa, coastal Maharashtra, and coastal Karnataka. The name is linked to the Saraswati river and the goddess of learning, reflecting a historical emphasis on scholarship and education. The community comprises several regional subgroups, notably the Gaud Saraswat Brahmins (GSB) and the Karwari Saraswat Brahmins (KSB), named for their historic settlements in Goa and Karwar, respectively.
