Saranganiand

Saranganiand is a term that refers to the indigenous people and culture of the Sarangani province in the Philippines. The Saranganiand people are part of the larger Blit group, which also includes the Blit, Klata, and Tboli ethnic groups. They primarily inhabit the southern part of the province, particularly in the municipalities of Alabel, Glan, and Kiamba.

The Saranganiand people have a rich cultural heritage, with distinct traditions, language, and practices that set them apart from other ethnic groups in the region. Their language, also known as Sarangani Manobo, belongs to the Manobo language family and is closely related to the languages spoken by other Manobo groups in Mindanao.

Traditionally, the Saranganiand people were known for their agricultural practices, particularly their expertise in swidden farming, or kaingin. They cultivated a variety of crops, including rice, corn, and root crops, as well as fruits and vegetables. They also engaged in hunting and gathering activities to supplement their diet.

The Saranganiand people have a deep spiritual connection to their environment, with animistic beliefs that revolve around the worship of ancestral spirits and nature deities. They believe in the existence of a supreme being, whom they refer to as "Magbabaya," who is responsible for the creation of the world and all living things.

In recent years, efforts have been made to preserve and promote the Saranganiand culture and heritage. The provincial government, in collaboration with various non-governmental organizations, has initiated programs aimed at documenting and revitalizing the Saranganiand language, as well as promoting their traditional arts, crafts, and practices. These efforts are crucial in ensuring the survival and continuity of the Saranganiand culture for future generations.
