Sappirakonpoisto

Sappirakonpoisto, also known as cholecystectomy, is a surgical procedure to remove the gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small organ located beneath the liver that stores bile, a fluid produced by the liver to aid in digestion. Gallstones, inflammation, or other diseases of the gallbladder are the primary reasons for its removal.

The most common method for performing a sappirakonpoisto is laparoscopically. This minimally invasive technique involves making several small incisions through which a surgeon inserts a laparoscope (a thin, flexible tube with a camera) and specialized surgical instruments. This allows the surgeon to view the inside of the abdomen on a monitor and remove the gallbladder without a large incision. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy generally results in a shorter hospital stay, faster recovery, and less pain compared to traditional open surgery.

In some cases, an open cholecystectomy may be necessary. This involves a larger incision in the abdomen to directly access and remove the gallbladder. Factors such as severe inflammation, adhesions from previous surgeries, or complications during a laparoscopic procedure can necessitate an open approach.

After sappirakonpoisto, bile flows directly from the liver into the small intestine. While the gallbladder's function is to concentrate and store bile, its absence does not significantly impair digestion for most individuals. Some people may experience temporary digestive changes, such as diarrhea, but these symptoms often resolve over time. Dietary adjustments, such as limiting fatty foods, may be recommended following the surgery.
