Sanu

Sanu is a village located in the Larijan District of Amol County in Mazandaran Province, Iran. The village lies in the northern part of the province, situated at an altitude of approximately 2,200 meters above sea level, within a mountainous terrain that is part of the Alborz mountain range. The local geography is characterized by pine forests, terraced agriculture, and several small streams that feed into the Roudkhan River basin.

According to the 2006 national census, Sanu had a population of 194 people distributed among 51 families. The demographic composition has traditionally been composed of the Mazandarani ethnic group, with a significant presence of Baluch families that migrated to the region in the late 20th century. The predominant language spoken in the village is Mazandarani, with Persian used for official purposes.

The economy of Sanu is primarily agricultural, with residents engaging in the cultivation of barley, wheat, and horticultural produce such as apples and pears. In addition, beekeeping and sheep herding are common supplementary activities. Local artisans also produce handcrafted carpets and handwoven textiles, reflecting the cultural heritage of the region.

Accessibility to Sanu is limited; the nearest major road is the Caspian Highway, approximately 25 kilometers away, and regional bus services provide limited connectivity to Amol and other nearby towns. Despite its remote setting, the village has a primary school and a basic health clinic that cater to the educational and medical needs of the local population.
