Salair

Salair is a mountain located in the Tuva Republic, Russia. It is situated in the Sayan Mountains, a part of the Alpine orogenic belt formed due to the collision of the Eurasian and Siberian tectonic plates.

Geologically, Salair is characterized by granitoid and gneissic rocks, formed as a result of high-grade metamorphism within the Precambrian basement complex. The mountain's landscape is characterized by granite domes, gneissic valleys, and glacial lakes.

The mountain is considered one of the most difficult-to-reach places in the Tuva Republic. It is surrounded by extensive areas of wilderness, with altitude climbs and steep mountain faces complicating travel and exploration.

Main peaks of Salair reach elevations of up to 3,539 meters above sea level, with glacial lakes and numerous rivers originating from this mountainous region. Hiking and climbing are popular activities, although exploration of the mountain is hindered by harsh weather conditions.

Even despite efforts by Russian scientists to explore the region, understanding of geological properties of Salair remains incomplete. Spectacular waterfalls and rapids found nearby make for attractive landscapes.
