Sahaptinspeaking
Sahaptinspeaking refers to people and communities who speak Sahaptin languages, a small group of closely related languages in the plateau region of the northwestern United States. These languages are traditionally spoken along the Columbia River and its tributaries in what are now parts of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Sahaptin-speaking peoples include several distinct ethnolinguistic groups, such as the Nez Perce and other communities associated with the Yakama, Umatilla, Walla Walla, Klickitat, and Palouse peoples. The term encompasses both the Nez Perce language (Nimi) and the various Sahaptin varieties spoken by other groups.
