The term sageduspiirkond is an Estonian legal and technical designation for a “frequency area” or “frequency band”. It refers to a defined segment of the electromagnetic spectrum that is allocated for specific types of radio service or for a particular region or organization. The concept is used primarily in the context of radio frequency regulation, spectrum management and telecommunications policy.

In Estonia, the allocation of sageduspiirkond is governed by the Communications Act and overseen by the Estonian Telecommunications Authority. The authority assigns suitable frequency areas to bodies such as broadcasting companies, emergency services, aviation, maritime, military and industrial users. Allocation decisions are made to minimise interference, promote efficient spectrum utilisation and comply with European Union directives.

Sageduspiirkond is employed to group frequencies that share common characteristics, such as urban or rural use, licensed or unlicensed status, and technical requirements in terms of modulation and bandwidth. For example, the FM radio broadcast range is a sageduspiirkond covering 88–108 MHz, while the U‑spectrum used by satellite uplinks occupies 6–12 GHz. Each area is logged in national databases and in international filings such as those conducted by the International Telecommunication Union.

The terminology is also relevant in emergency communications; the Estonian Civil Protection Service operates dedicated sageduspiirkond for emergency radio networks that remain operational during disasters. Similarly, maritime organizations designate specific frequency areas for ship‑to‑shore and ship‑to‑ship communication. The organization of these frequency areas ensures that operators can co‑exist without harmful interference and can reliably deploy their services.
