Sabang

Sabang is a city (kota) in Aceh Province, Indonesia. It comprises Pulau Weh and several smaller islands at the northern tip of Sumatra. The city is administered as a separate municipality within Aceh and is one of the westernmost urban areas in the country.

Geographically, Sabang lies at the entrance to the Strait of Malacca, near Banda Aceh. Pulau Weh is of volcanic origin and features a coastline of beaches, reefs, and forested hills. The area contains coral reefs and is part of the Weh Marine Park, a notable site for diving and snorkeling.

Economy and tourism: The local economy centers on fishing and tourism. Visitors are drawn to beaches such as Iboih and the diving sites around Rubiah Island, as well as natural attractions and a light maritime culture.

Transport and demographics: Balohan Port on Pulau Weh provides regular ferries to Banda Aceh, connecting Sabang with the Sumatra mainland. The island hosts a domestic airstrip with flights to nearby regional airports. The population is predominantly Acehnese, with Indonesian as the national language; local languages include Acehnese.

Climate: Sabang has a tropical monsoon climate with high rainfall and warm temperatures year-round.
