SUSarvio

SUSarvio is a term used in Finnish information technology and user experience practice to denote a System Usability Scale (SUS) evaluation of a product, service, or interface. The SUS is a ten-item questionnaire designed to measure perceived usability. In a SUSarvio, respondents rate each statement on a five-point Likert scale from strongly disagree to strongly agree. The items alternate between positive and negative formulations.

The scoring converts responses to a single usability score. Raw scores range from 0 to 40, which is then multiplied by 2.5 to yield a 0–100 score. Higher values indicate higher perceived usability. Scores above 68 are commonly interpreted as above average, though interpretation may depend on context and population.

Applications include comparing designs, benchmarking across versions, and guiding usability improvements in both early prototypes and post-release evaluations. SUSarvio is valued for its brevity, language-agnostic nature, and ease of implementation, but it provides a high-level estimate rather than diagnostic detail about specific usability problems. It may be complemented with qualitative methods such as interviews, think-aloud studies, or heuristic evaluations.

Limitations include sensitivity to sample size and response bias, potential ceiling effects, and the need for careful translation and cultural adaptation when used in multilingual settings. Despite these caveats, SUSarvio remains a widely used, standardized approach to assessing usability in many European and global projects.
