SPSSs

SPSSs is not a widely used term in software naming. The acronym SPSS most commonly refers to IBM SPSS Statistics, a commercial suite of programs for data management and statistical analysis. In practice, SPSSs can be used informally to refer to the broader SPSS family, including IBM SPSS Statistics, IBM SPSS Modeler (data mining and predictive analytics), and IBM SPSS Amos (structural equation modeling). The core product remains IBM SPSS Statistics.

History and development: SPSS was originally developed by SPSS Inc. in 1968 by Norman Nie, C. Hadlai Hull, and Dale Bent for social science research. It became widely adopted in universities and research organizations. IBM acquired SPSS Inc. in 2009, integrating SPSS Statistics into its software portfolio and rebranding the main product as IBM SPSS Statistics. The SPSS line then expanded to include modeling and advanced analytics tools under the SPSS umbrella.

Overview of capabilities: IBM SPSS Statistics provides data management, descriptive statistics, and a range of analyses such as t-tests, ANOVA, regression, logistic regression, nonparametric tests, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and survival analysis.
