SMILES (Simplified Molecular Input Line Entry System) is a notation for describing the structure of chemical molecules using a string of ASCII characters. SMILESDarstellung refers to the process or representation of a chemical structure using this SMILES notation. It provides a linear way to encode detailed molecular information, including connectivity, stereochemistry, and isotopic information, in a compact and human-readable format.

The core of SMILESDarstellung involves representing atoms with their element symbols, and bonds with specific characters. Single bonds are typically implied or represented by a hyphen, double bonds by an equals sign, and triple bonds by a hash symbol. Branching is indicated by parentheses. Rings are represented by matching numerical labels that appear at the points where the ring closes. Chirality, or the three-dimensional arrangement of atoms around a chiral center, can be specified using '@' or '@@' symbols. Isotopic information can also be embedded within the SMILES string.

SMILESDarstellung is widely used in cheminformatics, computational chemistry, and drug discovery due to its simplicity and suitability for computer processing. It allows for efficient storage, searching, and manipulation of molecular data.
