SMGW
SMGW stands for Smart Meter Gateway and is a certified security device central to the German smart metering system. It acts as the secure boundary between the measurement devices at a metering point, such as the smart meter, and the networks used by utilities, grid operators, and meter data management systems. The SMGW is designed to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity of energy data exchanged within the system.
Role and capabilities: The SMGW manages cryptographic keys and certificates, authenticates connected devices, and controls access
Security and certification: SMGWs are regulated by security requirements defined for the Smart Metering System and
Deployment and use: The SMGW is typically installed at the customer’s premises and connects the in-house measuring
