This is typically achieved by impersonating the victim and providing fraudulent information to the carrier's customer service. Once the attacker gains control of the phone number, they can intercept calls and text messages.

The primary goal of a SIMkorttihyökkäys is often to bypass two-factor authentication (2FA) systems that rely on SMS codes for verification. By intercepting these codes, attackers can gain access to the victim's online accounts, such as social media, email, banking, and cryptocurrency exchanges. This can lead to identity theft, financial loss, and reputational damage.
