SGWs
SGWs is an acronym used in multiple fields, and its meaning depends on the context. The most established use is in telecommunications, where SGW stands for Serving Gateway. In LTE networks, the Serving Gateway is a core network node that routes and forwards user data between the eNodeB and the Evolved Packet Core. It acts as a mobility anchor for the user plane, manages bearers, and terminates GTP tunnels for data transport. The SGW works alongside the Packet Data Network Gateway and the Mobility Management Entity to handle IP address allocation, QoS enforcement, and policy control. In some network deployments, multiple SGWs may exist, with the plural SGWs referring to the set of serving gateways in a given network.
Beyond mobile networks, SGWs can refer to Security Gateways in computer networks. A Security Gateway functions
SGWs is also used in hydrogeology to denote shallow groundwater in some datasets and reports, where it
