SATAliitännöillä refers to connections using the SATA interface. SATA, which stands for Serial Advanced Technology Attachment, is a standard interface for connecting storage devices such as hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs) to a computer's motherboard. It replaced the older Parallel ATA (PATA) interface, offering significant improvements in speed, cable management, and ease of use.

SATA connectors are typically found on the motherboard and on the storage devices themselves. There are two main types of SATA connectors: the data connector and the power connector. The data connector transmits data between the drive and the motherboard, while the power connector supplies electricity to the drive. These connectors are designed to be keyed, meaning they can only be plugged in one way, preventing incorrect installation.

Over time, SATA has evolved through several generations, each offering increased data transfer speeds. SATA I (1.5 Gbit/s), SATA II (3 Gbit/s), and SATA III (6 Gbit/s) are the most common versions. While physically the connectors are similar across generations, the speed capabilities differ. Modern motherboards and storage devices primarily utilize SATA III for optimal performance, especially with faster SSDs. Despite the emergence of newer interfaces like NVMe for SSDs, SATAliitännöillä remains a prevalent and reliable connection method for many storage solutions in personal computers and other electronic devices.
