SAMD51

The SAMD51 is a family of 32-bit microcontrollers from Microchip Technology (formerly Atmel) based on the ARM Cortex-M4F core. It forms the high-performance branch of Microchip's SAM D5x/E5x series, aimed at mid-range embedded applications that require floating-point capability and richer peripherals than the smaller SAM D21 line.

At the core is a Cortex-M4F CPU with an on‑chip single-precision FPU and DSP instructions, typically clocked up to around 120 MHz. The line comprises several devices with different amounts of flash and RAM, enabling designs from compact to more capable in terms of program storage and data memory.

Peripheral capabilities include a USB 2.0 Full-Speed interface with on-chip PHY, multiple SERCOM modules that can function as SPI, I2C, or UART, I2S support, and a comprehensive set of timers. The family also provides analog peripherals such as ADCs and DACs, along with an event system and a DMA controller to facilitate efficient data movement. In addition, flexible clock and power management features support various power profiles and application needs. The devices come in a range of package options to suit different board layouts and pin counts.

Memory and packaging options vary by device, with flash and SRAM sizes typically ranging up to about 1 MB of flash and several hundred kilobytes of RAM, and package options from roughly 48 to 100 pins.

Development and ecosystem: Microchip supports SAMD51 devices with MPLAB X IDE, Microchip Studio, and the Atmel START configuration tool, along with GCC-based toolchains. Community resources and third-party boards extend the available ecosystem. Notable variants include SAMD51J19A, SAMD51G19A, and SAMD51N19A.
