Sünniler

Sünniler, also known as Sunnis, are one of the two major branches of Islam, the other being Shia. The term "Sünni" is derived from the Arabic word "sunna," which refers to the traditions and practices of the Prophet Muhammad. Sunnis constitute the majority of Muslims, making up approximately 85-90% of the global Muslim population. They follow the teachings of the Quran and the Hadith, which are the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad as recorded by his companions.

Sunnis are further divided into several schools of thought, known as madhahib, which interpret the Quran and Hadith differently. The four major Sunni schools are Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali. Each school has its own interpretations of Islamic law and practices, but they all share a common belief in the unity of God and the prophethood of Muhammad.

Sunnis place a strong emphasis on the role of the caliphate, the political and religious leadership of the Muslim community. They believe that the caliphate should be inherited by the Prophet's closest male relatives, known as the Ahl al-Bayt. This belief has led to a long-standing dispute with Shias, who believe that the caliphate should be inherited by the Prophet's descendants, particularly the descendants of his daughter Fatima and her husband Ali.

Sunnis are found in various countries around the world, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and Indonesia. They practice a wide range of Islamic practices, from conservative to liberal, and their influence extends beyond the realm of religion to politics, economics, and culture.
